The coffee produced at Fazenda da Lagoa follows the highest standards of environmental, social and administrative sustainability. This ensure our customers that they are consuming a product that takes care of the environment and people. Our certifications “Certifica Minas” and “Rainforest Alliance” are the proof of recognition that we produce quality coffee with responsibility. Despite fulfilling the ever-growing requeriments to have these certifications, we go much further. The Fazenda da Lagoa environmental preservation area is larger than that required by law and is the natural habitat for several wild animals, including the beautiful scarlet macaws.
The cultivation of our coffee is 100% irrigated and all the water used is granted by the Instituto Mineiro de Gestão das Águas (IGAM). Our drip irrigation system reduces water consumption, which is associated with a
advanced management system (complete meteorological station + software) allows us to determine the correct amount of water to apply and optimize the use of this important natural resource. Several investments have been made to increase the circular economy of our production. Among them, the installation of a
solar power plant will allow us to produce 50% of the energy consumed at Fazenda da Lagoa, with the plans ahead to get this amount to reach 100% in the coming years.
In addition to returning the coffee husks from the beneficiation process as organic fertilizer for the crop, we also integrate animal production in order to produce manure that can also be used as
organic fertilizer. Planting cover crops between the rows of coffee trees increases nutrient cycling, prevents erosion, fixes nitrogen, sequesters carbon, increases biodiversity and improves the health of the soil and our plantation as a whole. These cover crops allow the control of harmful weeds to coffee and the more rational use of agricultural inputs.
Our integrated management of pests and diseases has increasingly used biological products that have allowed the maintenance of high populations of natural predators. In addition, bees are distributed throughout the crop during flowering to increase pollination and setting of coffee beans.
When purchasing our products, our customers benefit, in addition to excellent quality coffee, the certainty of consuming a sustainable product, whose practices, right down to the cup, consider respect for the environment, our employees and customers.
Certifications and social care
We are proud to say that we grow highly sustainable coffee on our farm, proven by the Certifica Minas Café, UTZ and Rainforest Alliance certifications.
The certifications conquered by Fazenda da Lagoa also take into account social aspects. We care for the well-being of our employees because we are sure that they are a fundamental part of the process. Specialized courses on workplace safety and good agricultural practices are offered periodically.
